Robert Serpell

Robert Serpell PhD is a Zambian citizen and Professor of Psychology at the University of Zambia (UNZA). His publications include Culture’s influence on behaviour (1976), The significance of schooling (1993), Becoming literate in the city (2005), and Child Development in Africa (2013). He worked as Director of African Studies at UNZA (1977-83), Director of Applied Developmental Psychology, University of Maryland, Baltimore USA (1989-2002), Vice-Chancellor of UNZA (2003-06), and Coordinator of UNZA’s Centre for Promotion of Literacy in Sub-Saharan Africa (2011-15). He is currently a mentor to the African Early Childhood Network.
